Any photos you set, your timer length, and your voice pick stay on this device only (browser localStorage) — nothing is uploaded, ever. Free, no sign-up, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
⚙️ turns on setup mode: tap any tile to give it your own photo — straight from the camera or your gallery (great for the real cup, the real bed, the real person). While setup mode is on, tiles that have a photo show a small ✖ that removes it.
How this board works
Big tiles, grouped by what they're for: needs (water, food, a hug, a break), core words (help, stop, more, done), and whatever else the moment needs. Tap a tile and the board says it out loud, in your browser's own speech voice — the same one your device already uses, no downloads, no cloud voice. A gentle wait timer can count down a pause without turning it into pressure, and the photo slots accept your own pictures, so “drink” can be a photo of the actual blue cup. Everything — photos, custom tiles, settings — stays on this device; nothing uploads, ever.
Why it is built this way
Tap-to-speak boards belong to the long-established world of AAC — augmentative and alternative communication, the family of tools that gives speech another road when the spoken one is blocked. Two AAC ideas shape this one. Core words are the small set of words that do most of the work in everyday communication — help, stop, more, done — so they get the prime tiles rather than nouns for every object under the sun. And the voice is the browser's own on purpose: a voice the person may already know from their device, available instantly, with nothing to configure or sign up for.
The photo slots exist because personal beats generic: a photo of the real thing in the real kitchen answers faster than any stock icon. The wait timer exists because hard pauses are part of communication, not a failure of it — and a countdown with no judgment attached makes waiting visible without making it scary.
How to use it well
- Model, don't quiz. AAC practice's oldest lesson: tap tiles yourself in real moments — “you tap, they hear it works” — rather than testing the person on finding tiles. Boards get used by people who've seen them used.
- Keep it reachable. A board in a drawer is no board at all; the device lives where the person lives.
- Use photos of the real things. The actual cup, the actual snack shelf, the actual garden — recognition beats symbolism, every time.
- Honor the taps. Every tap is communication. If the board says “break” and the break happens, the board is telling the truth — and gets trusted next time.
What this is not
- Not speech therapy. It is a communication tool, not a treatment program — for therapy, a speech-language professional is the right path.
- Not only for people who never speak. Speech is unreliable under load for many people; a board that works during the unreliable hours is worth having even on the fluent ones.
- Not a data collector. No analytics, no cloud, no account — the photos and tiles never leave this device.

Which voice does it use?
Whichever speech voice your browser already has installed — change it in your device's settings and the board speaks with the new one on the next load. No voices download through this page.
Do my photos go anywhere?
No. Photos you add are stored in this browser's storage on this device and rendered locally. There is no upload path in the page — the same rule every tool on this site follows.
Is the wait timer required?
Never. It's there for the moments a visible, gentle countdown helps — and absent whenever it wouldn't.
